Eric
Scott Leys was elected to his first term on the Maine Township High
School District 207 Board of Education on April 3, 2001. Winning
precincts throughout Des Plaines, Park Ridge, and Glenview, Eric
Leys won election to the School Board decisively garnering more than
9000 votes.
Born December 7, 1979, Leys is the youngest member ever
elected to the Dist. 207 Board, and one of the youngest candidates
to win
a contested election in Illinois. Leys quickly built a reputation
as independent voice for the Maine Schools throughout the 2001
campaign and in the early days of his tenure as a District
207 Board Member.
He believes that through the diligent work of a board member willing
to explore new avenues, allocate funding as needed to develop the
curriculum in needed areas, and continually seek out ways to connect
with the community, our schools' best days are not behind us, but
rather, have yet to come.
Eric Leys serves his constituents on the board as Chairman of
the Community Relations Committee, and also serves as a member
of the Policy Committee, and the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
Prior to his term on the District 207 School Board, Eric Leys
had addressed the board on several occasions dating back to 1997.
Mr. Leys served as an advocate for parents, students, and citizens
in recommending policy adjustments to the board. Since 2001, Mr.
Leys has served as a precinct captain for the Maine Township Regular
Republican Organization in the 127th Precinct of Maine Township.
Eric Leys grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois. He attended Cumberland
Elementary School and Chippewa Junior High School in Des Plaines.
A 1998 graduate of District 207's Maine West High School, Eric
Leys was elected Senior Class President.
Eric Leys is currently employed as General Sales Manager at Acura
of Libertyville and resides in Des Plaines.
